How to Identify and Avoid Moldy Weed

Not all bad weed looks obviously bad. Here's exactly what to look (and smell) for before you light up.

Mold on cannabis is one of the most common — and most overlooked — issues for casual smokers. The scary part is that it doesn't always look like the fuzzy green growth you might expect on old bread. On dried bud, mold often shows up as white powder, grey patches, or tiny webs deep inside the flower.

Trichomes vs mold: trichomes are sticky, crystalline and sparkle under light. Mold is dull, dusty and clumps in shadowed pockets. If you're unsure, break the bud open and inspect the inside under a bright light or jeweler's loupe.

Smell is your second line of defence. Healthy weed smells dank, citrusy, piney or sweet. Moldy weed smells musty, like a damp basement or wet hay. If anything seems off, don't smoke it.

Why it matters: smoking moldy cannabis can cause respiratory irritation, headaches and — for immune-compromised users — serious infections. Buying from a licensed dispensary like The Kush Spot means every product is lab-tested and properly stored in humidity-controlled conditions.
