Understanding Potency and THC Levels
What THC percentage really means, how potency is measured, and how to pick the right strength for you.
Cannabis potency refers to the strength of a product, mainly determined by its THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) content. THC is the primary psychoactive compound in marijuana, and it's usually reported as a percentage on every label of flower, pre-roll, vape or concentrate you'll find at The Kush Spot.
For dried flower, today's premium Canadian buds typically test between 18% and 30% THC. Anything above 25% is considered high-potency — great for seasoned users but easily overwhelming for beginners. Edibles and concentrates work differently: edibles are measured in milligrams (10 mg is one standard dose in Canada), and concentrates can hit 70–90% THC.
If you're new, start low and go slow: 2.5–5 mg of edibles, or a single small hit of flower. Wait at least an hour for edibles before redosing. Our budtenders on Centre St NW can walk you through every label, so you always know exactly what you're consuming.
Don't forget about CBD, terpenes, and the entourage effect. A balanced 1:1 product, or a terpene-rich craft flower, often delivers a smoother, more functional experience than chasing the highest THC number on the shelf.
